The toes of the foot are made up of the phalanges. There are
three of these that make up the toe which are the distal, mediae and
the proximales. A fractured broken toe is when you get a fracture or
break in any of these. In the picture above you can see these
outlined by color. Almost all broken toes are of the proximales. The
others are so small that they are hard to break.
Broken toes are usually caused by either dropping something on
your foot stubbing your toes into something hard.
