Glossitis by definition is Tongue Inflammation


A painful tongue which appears smooth due to loss of the filiform and sometimes
the fungiform papillae secondary to certain nutritional deficiencies, especially B-vitamin
deficencies, as seen in pellagra, thiamin deficiency, and disorders such as pernicious
anemia (Hunter's or Moeller's glossitis).


and mouth cancer are a type of oral cancer. Oral cancer involves abnormal,<br />malignant tissue growth in the mouth. Oral or mouth cancer most commonly involves the<br />tissue of the lips or the tongue. It may also occur on the floor of the mouth, cheek<br />lining, gingiva (gums), or palate (roof of the mouth). According to the<br />Illinois State Cancer Registry, about 1,480 new cases of oral and pharyngeal<br />cancer will be diagnosed in Illinois in 2008 . Of these, about 1,040 will be in<br />men and about 440 will be in women. About 350 Illinoisans are expected to die of<br />oral and pharyngeal cancer in 2008.
